Are you a mom of a preschooler?

Motherhood is tough.  Let’s face it, young mom, being the mom of a preschool child has both joys and challenges.  Some days are really, really good, and some days are not so stellar.  Some moments in motherhood will take your breath away, while others leave you feeling choked at best.  Most days are filled with endless tasks:  feeding your family, doing laundry, changing diapers, potty training, and cleaning the house (again). And very few days are mountain top experiences.

Though motherhood brings its own set of opportunities, the journey is easier when traveled in the company of other moms, who strive together in the task of raising strong Christian children who can change their world.  This is the purpose of MOPS.

MOPS exists as a safe place for Moms of Preschoolers (babies through kindergarteners) to share this journey of motherhood with other moms in the Starkville community.  In its third year, MOPS at FBC continues to grow and provide mothers of preschoolers in the Starkville community with a place where they can come to learn how to be better wives and mothers, to sharpen their faith, to hone their marriage and parenting skills, and to find support among other moms.

This year’s theme, “Find Your Fire,” from Romans 12:11-13, will challenge moms to stop feeling as if they aren’t adequate, and to start living knowing that they are more than enough. It will remind them that they are loved by many, including God.  The focus will be on helping moms see themselves as capable individuals who cannot only survive motherhood, but can flourish in it, and who can have healthy marriages.

Never let the fire go out . . . When you hope, be joyful.  When you suffer, be patient.  When you pray, be faithful.  Share with God’s people who are in need.  Welcome others into your homes.

Romans 12:11-13 (NIrV)

MOPS will address issues such as raising boys, raising strong girls, reclaiming our homes, loving the life you didn’t choose, facing adversity, sisterhood, mothering right when our kids do wrong, raising compassionate kids, being grateful, and cultivating relationships with our neighbors.

When does MOPS kickoff?

Our kick-off event will be held at Patriot’s Park on August 17, 9:00-11:00 am.  Bring your children for a play-date with other preschool children while moms will be able to get information on this year’s MOPS program.  Invite another mother of a preschool child to come with you.

How do I sign up for MOPS?

Regular meetings will begin Friday, September 7.  Meetings will be held on the second floor of the FBC Children’s Building and childcare is provided, but all children must be registered in advance.  Sign up at fbcstarkville.com/events. You can also find a meeting schedule there, or you can pick up a MOPS fridge magnet with meeting schedule in the foyer or in the Preschool Department.  The cost for joining MOPS is $31.95 for the year.
