“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 1:8

The Missionary Task

Ever wondered what missions looked like? The teams we send engage in short-term missions, helping our partners reach their communities and people groups in their contexts. Hearing how God is working through these partners is exciting, and knowing that our church family has a small part in the task is energizing.

Why should you be involved in short-term missions?

  • To expose you to see and experience what God is doing globally.

  • To provide opportunities for you to be personally involved in the Great Commission.

  • To share the gospel with people.

  • To teach people the Word of God.

  • To support and assist partnerships throughout the world.

  • To help you see the opportunities to serve in the Starkville and MSU communities as a result of serving abroad on a short-term team.

  • To plant seeds that lead to being a cross-cultural missionary.

Victoria, British Columbia

Join us on mission as we go to Victoria to serve with Canvas Church and their pastor, Ashley Austin! Ashley and his family have served on Vancouver Island since 2013. Victoria is an incredibly beautiful place that is incredibly unchurched and lost. Our trips there have focused on high quality sports camps that provide connection points for the Canvas Church family to get to know people from their communities.

Lisbon, Portugal

Join us on mission as we go to Lisbon, Portugal, to serve with IMB church planters, Jonathan and Bethany Sharp! The Sharp family is burdened by the fact that only 1 of 100 residents in Lisbon are part of an evangelical church, and we want to serve and support their ministry. Our trips there have been holiday-focused outreach events that provide connection points for the Sharps and their ministry partners.

South Asia

Join us on mission as we go to South Asia to serve with IMB church planters and mobilizers! These special partners whose names cannot be shared for security reasons are committed to training South Asian believers to serve and even pastor local churches in their communities. Our trips there have been focused on both evangelism and training local church leaders.

Houston, TX

Join us on mission to serve unreached people groups in Houston with the Global Gates team! The mission of Global Gates is to see gospel transformation of the world’s most un-evangelized people groups who have come to global gateway cities, and through them reach their communities around the world. Houston is home to 90 languages and is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in the United States.

Kigali, Rwanda

The mission of Starkville native Chris Hope Rutagengwa and the Hagari Rwanda ministry is to create a sustainable and lifelong impact with families living in extreme poverty through Christ-centered ministry. First Baptist Starkville has been a partner with Chris for many years.

Middle East

A First Baptist Starkville couple is serving a largely unreached people group within a large city in the Middle East. These special partners, whose names cannot be shared for security reasons, are committed to training national and ex-pat believers and serving within the small but vibrant local church in their city.
